The Benefits of Dental Implants
Dental implants are considered the gold standard for tooth restoration, due to the many benefits they offer.
- Restores natural biting force
- Keeps teeth from drifting into the open space
- Provides a permanent root to prevent bone loss
- Preserves smile aesthetics
- Allows normal speaking and eating
- Requires no extra maintenance beyond daily brushing
The Dental Implant Process
Dr. Rappleye begins with a thorough examination to determine whether a patient is eligible for a dental implant. Because adequate bone volume and density is needed to support the implant, some patients may require additional procedures to prepare the area, such as a bone graft or sinus lift.
Once the patient has been approved for an implant, we use 3D digital imaging technology to map out the treatment site and determine the best style and placement for the implant. In some cases, several prosthetic teeth may be secured on just a few implants. Our practice utilizes a variety of implant brands and styles, so that each implant matches the needs of the patient.
On the day of the procedure, the dentist will prepare the patient with an anesthetic. Local anesthesia is typically used, but we also offer conscious sedation for patients who are apprehensive about dental procedures.
The dentist inserts the implant post, which is made of titanium for optimal biocompatibility. Time is needed for the bone and tissue to heal, fusing to the implant for a strong and durable connection. After it has sufficiently healed, Dr. Rappleye will attach the abutment and crown, completing the implant.
With your implant fully in place, you will be able to speak, bite, and otherwise function with this new tooth (or teeth) just as you would with your natural teeth. These prosthetic teeth are designed to withstand daily use, and with proper care, will remain viable for years to come.
